To be eligible for the Ron Brown Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- African American Heritage: Candidates must identify as African American or Black. This scholarship is specifically designed to support students from this racial background, recognizing the unique challenges they may face in pursuing higher education.
- Academic Achievement: Applicants should excel academically, maintaining a high GPA throughout their high school years. This criterion reflects the scholarship’s emphasis on recognizing students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their education and have consistently performed well academically.

This criterion recognizes the importance of developing leadership skills early on and encourages applicants to showcase their ability to take initiative, inspire others, and make a positive impact in their surroundings.
