Brown, the first African American Secretary of Commerce, this scholarship aims to recognize and support exceptional individuals who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to public service.
To be eligible for the Ron Brown Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- African American Heritage: Candidates must identify as African American or Black. This scholarship is specifically designed to support students from this racial background, recognizing the unique challenges they may face in pursuing higher education.
- Academic Achievement: Applicants should excel academically, maintaining a high GPA throughout their high school years. This criterion reflects the scholarship’s emphasis on recognizing students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their education and have consistently performed well academically.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership abilities within their school, community, or extracurricular activities are highly valued. This criterion recognizes the importance of developing leadership skills early on and encourages applicants to showcase their ability to take initiative, inspire others, and make a positive impact in their surroundings.
- Community Involvement: A strong commitment to community service and making a positive impact is essential. This criterion highlights the scholarship’s emphasis on nurturing individuals who not only excel academically but also actively contribute to the betterment of their communities.
- Financial Need: Students who demonstrate financial need will be given priority consideration. This criterion acknowledges the scholarship’s goal of providing assistance to students who may face financial barriers in pursuing higher education, ensuring that deserving individuals have access to the support they need.
