Developing Countries’ Students are offered with John Allwright Fellowship in Australia, 2013

The fellowship is offered for research in the field of agriculture, it is co funded by (Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research) ACIAR and AusAID and can be taken at Australia.

The ACIAR Fellowships Scheme was initiated in 1986 to make available the opportunity for partner country scientists involved in ACIAR-supported collaborative research projects to obtain postgraduate qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions.

The chief endeavor of the Scheme is to boost research capacity in ACIAR’s partner country institutions. At the same time as individual awardees will benefit from the Scheme, it is important to note that partner country institutions are the key targets.

 

The eligibility and international applicability:-

Even if applications are welcome from project staff in both bilateral and multilateral (IARC) projects

  • -applicants must be citizens of a current ACIAR bilateral partner priority country. Currently, these are: Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu,  Tonga, Samoa, Kiribati); South East Asia (East Timor, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines); South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan); Northern Asia (Western China) and the Republic of South Africa and other African countries with ACIAR projects
  • -Applicants must also be citizens of the country in which they are working. To be eligible for selection, a candidate must:
  • -at the time of applying, hold qualifications that would be assessed to be equivalent to at least an Australian bachelor’s degree in a discipline that is relevant to the proposed area of postgraduate study;
  • -be a scientist or economist from the developing country partner, who is actively involved in a collaborative research project supported by ACIAR at the time of application (in some cases, ACIAR will consider supporting researchers from “advanced pipeline” projects, i.e. in cases where a full project proposal has been approved by ACIAR);
  • -be jointly supported in the application by the Australian and partner country Project Leaders;
  • -obtain approval from both the employing institution and home government training authority who must agree to the absence of the candidate should he/she receive a Fellowship for the period involved in obtaining the postgraduate qualification; and
  • -demonstrate that he/she is employed on a permanent rather than short-term contract basis.
  • All candidates (both successful and unsuccessful), their project leaders, ACIAR Research Program Managers and the post will be advised of the outcome of the selection process as soon as possible after the Training Committee has met, usually within 8 weeks.

Australian and partner country project leaders should jointly identify candidates and forward to ACIAR an application using the current John Allwright Fellowship application form endorsed by the employing organisation and government of the collaborating country. One hard copy should also be sent to the ACIAR Office in the candidate’s home country if applying from the following countries: Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, India and Western China.

Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship for postgraduate studies in India and abroad, 2013-14

An initiative of the Narotam Sekhsaria foundation this Scholarship programme is for pursuing postgraduate studies at prestigious institutions in India and abroad, in the fields of Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, Law, Architecture and Management. DST-ANR Joint Call for Pre-Proposals tendered for Indian and French Researchers, 2014

This joint call for research proposals for collaborative research for the year 2014 is initiated by Department of Science and Technology (DST) and National Research Agency (ANR). The grant is made to beneficiate the Indian (in France) and French researchers (in India). Thrust areas of research for this call are: a) Neurosciences b) Engineering Sciences (Sub-areas: Material Science, Chemistry, Intelligent Transport System and Energy). The duration of the fiscal aid is max of three years. The benefit can be taken at India and France.

The French researchers apply for funding in accordance with ANR rules and the Indian researchers in accordance with DST rules, both using their own application procedure. The joint proposal shall be written in English. Pre-proposals submitted to only one side will not be eligible. All applicants must fulfill national eligibility rules for their research grant application.

Citizens of India and France can apply for this call.

  • About the awards:-
  1. The research projects will be funded for a maximum of three years.

  1. The finally selected full proposals will be funded in India by DST and in France by ANR. ANR pays the travel expenses of the visiting French researcher in India as well as his/her accommodation, and per diem allowances. Correspondingly, DST pays the travel expenses in France of the Indian researcher as well as his/her accommodation and per diem allowances as per CEFIPRA norms.

–         added value of the Indo-French research collaboration

–         feasibility of the research plan

Call for Proposals for Research Project on the topic of Smart Energy Grids at Netherlands and India, 2013

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) jointly open a call for proposals. This program offers scholarship, funding opportunities for research in Netherlands and India, scholarship is offered for research projects on the topic of Smart Energy Grids. A project allows for the application of four PhD / post-doc positions: two in India (duration and fellowship amount as per terms and conditions of DST) and two in the Netherlands (duration and fellowship amount as per terms and conditions of NWO). The benefit of this program can be taken by the nationals of India and Netherlands and also at India and Netherlands.

Information:-

  • About the eligibility:- It is as follows:-
  • -Eligible research teams are composed of Dutch and Indian researchers, with active involvement in the project of a senior Principal Investigator on both the Indian and the Dutch side. As the programme is aimed at scientific collaboration between institutes, in each country at least two groups or institutes with complementary expertise should be involved. All criteria below apply to the main applicants as well as all co-applicants.
  • Dutch professors, associate professors and assistant professors as well as other researchers holding a similar position can apply if they:
  • Are employed at a Dutch University or a research institute acknowledged by NWO and;
    have an employment contract for at least the duration of the application procedure and the duration of the research project the grant is applied for, and;have at least a PhD or an equivalent qualification.
    For Indian scientists the Indian principal investigator should be affiliated to a public funded academic or research organization in India.
  • About the nationality:-

The students of Netherlands and India can submit an application for this position.

  • About the awards:-
  1. A project allows for the application of four PhD / post-doc positions: two in India (duration and fellowship amount as per terms and conditions of DST) and two in the Netherlands (duration and fellowship amount as per terms and conditions of NWO).
  1. In the Netherlands the duration of a PhD assignment is 4 years and the duration of a post-doc assignment is for a maximum of 3 years. Exchange visits for scientists in the research team of maximum 3 months each for PhD students/postdocs.
  1. What does it cover?  Financial support for approved projects will cover:

Four temporal personnel positions: PhDs and/or post-docs only. Two in India and two in the Netherlands; duration and fellowship amount as per terms and conditions of DST and NWO, respectively. Minimum is one PhD student per country, and maximum one postdoc. In the Netherlands the duration of a PhD assignment is 4 years and the duration of a post-doc assignment is for a maximum of 3 years. Personnel costs are subsidized in accordance with the most recent “Agreement on Employers? responsibilities NWO – VSNU.

An estimate of the fixed NWO-amounts is: PhD student (4 yr) – k€ 204, postdoc 2 yr – k€ 135, postdoc 3 yr – k€ 201. DST works with fellowship rates as announced time to time by DST. DST grants can only be applied for NET qualified PhD students (Junior Research Fellowship) and post-doctoral (Research Associate). In addition, also House Rent Allowance and Medical budget as per host institute norms can be included.

Exchange visits for scientists in the research team (obligatory): maximum 4 research visits (in total) of maximum 3 months each for PhD students/postdocs; for senior researchers the maximum stay will be 3 weeks in total.

Minor equipment/consumables/accessories (for the Netherlands at a max. of € 10,000 in total for the run time of the project; for India around 500,000 rupees per year for equipment and around 200,000 rupees per year for consumables).

Annual project meetings (obligatory!) to enhance the exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge and skills between the research teams.

In the Netherlands a maximum budget of € 450,000 per project can be applied for.

  1. Selection Criteria:

The following assessment criteria apply:

Thematic approach: Projects should aim at research which holds promising solutions to the challenges in setting up smart energy grids.

-Scientific quality and innovative character of the research proposal: Challenging content; Originality of the topic; Innovative elements; Potential to make an important contribution to the advancement of science and/or technology in smart grid research; Interdisciplinary approach; Suitability of proposed method; Suitability of the approach/plan incl. time scheme/milestones.

Quality of the research groups: Research groups should be top in the field; track records of the institutes/research groups/applicants should be excellent.

Indo-Dutch co-operation: Added value of Indo-Dutch co-operation to the research project, including the complementary expertise of the national and bilateral research teams; The degree of inter-institutional co-operation between the project partners, and the prospects for scientific collaboration lasting beyond the duration of the research project.

  1. Notification: By October 2013 Funding decision will be announced by the Joint Committee.
  • About the applying procedure and the Deadline:-

An application can only be submitted to NWO via the electronic application system Iris. Applications not submitted via Iris will not be admitted to the selection procedure. A main applicant is obliged to submit his/her application via his/her own Iris account.  The operating procedure and instruction manual for Iris can be found at http://www.iris.nwo.nl. If the main applicant does not have an Iris account yet then this should be created at least one day before the submission. Then any possible registration problems can still be solved on time. If the main applicant already has an Iris account then he/she does not need to create a new account to submit a new application. An application consists of two parts: a factsheet containing the key details of both the applicant and the application, and the research proposal itself;

– The factsheet is completed and submitted electronically using Iris. One of the parts of the factsheet is a summary of maximally 300 words, which is the same as the English scientific summary in the proposal;

  4. -Awards are available for the first year of any Undergraduate degree programme, scholarship holders progressing to Year 2, will be eligible for a £2000 award dependent on academic results of Year 1 of 65% and above.
  5. -Awards are available for the first year only of any Postgraduate degree programme.
  6. -Applicants must have completed an application for a place to study at SwanseaUniversity which must have been received by the Admissions Office by the 1st July deadline.
  7. -Successful candidates will be informed the week commencing the 3rd June 2013 a reduced tuition fee will be levied at enrolment. Candidates must confirm acceptance of their scholarship, accept an offer of a place on a course and pay their £2000 deposit.
  8. -The International Scholarship Committee may use whatever means of assessment it thinks most appropriate in order to determine which candidates are worthy of recommendation for the award of a scholarship.
  9. -Scholarship holders, having accepted an award, are reasonably expected to co-operate in SwanseaUniversity recruitment activities and automatically agree to their names and details being released by the University’s International Development Office for marketing purposes.

10. -If it is deemed necessary for a Scholarship holder to suspend their studies, the scholarship will be held on university account and carried forward to the year of resumption of studies and the candidate will be expected to pay their personal contribution on a pro-rata basis.

11. -If in the view of the appropriate Head of School, a Scholarship holder’s progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory, the Scholarship may be withdrawn. A Scholarship may also be withdrawn on grounds of failure to comply with any of the conditions attached to the Award. The candidate may be required to repay to the University any award which has been made, either in whole or in part, as determined by the Committee. If the scholar feels that such a withdrawal is unjustified s/he may appeal in writing to the Head of the International Development Office within 15 working days of the date of notification.

12. -The International Development Office reserves the right to make, amend, withdraw, suspend or cancel without notice these and such other Regulations as may be in force from time to time and such decisions shall be final.
